WCEC Installs SMARTPOWER® Meter 1,000
Wood County Electric Cooperative implemented a prepaid electric purchasing system and service marked the name SmartPower for it in 2005. Recently, SmartPower meter number 1,000 was installed as the program has been very well received by WCEC members.
The system is manufactured by Ampy Automation, LTD and was purchased from Widefield, LLC out of Arizona. SmartPower puts the member in control of their electric usage allowing them to purchase electricity when they desire at kiosks called revaluing centers. The kiosks are strategically located throughout WCEC’s service territory to allow SmartPower members to re-value their SmartCards at a location convenient to them most hours of the day, night and weekend. In addition to the kiosks, members can also revalue their cards at the WCEC Mobile Convenience Center or the headquarter office.
Just like on-line bill pay, bank draft, etc., SmartPower is another avenue WCEC offers for members to pay their electric bill. The program really educates the member about how much electricity they are using at any given time and encourages energy conservation.
