WCEC's 69th Annual Meeting

Over 950 members attended the 69th Annual Meeting of Wood County Electric Cooperative Inc., (WCEC) held Friday afternoon, October 5, 2007 at the Governor Jim Hogg City Park in Quitman. Prior to the meeting, a free concert featuring the popular gospel group, The New Plainsmen Quartet, was enjoyed by the crowd and set a festive tone.

To kick-off the business meeting, Debbie Robinson, CEO/General Manager of WCEC, offered introductions and commended and thanked both the Quitman Police Department and Quitman Volunteer Fire Department for being on hand to help with traffic flow and emergency medical services.

Board President and District One Chairman Pat Lindley conducted the business portion of the membership meeting. During the meeting, two members were elected to the Board of Directors. Elected to three-year terms were incumbent directors Jane Roberson, District Six and Cathy Roberts, District Five. It was also reported that $1.5 million in capital credits will be retired and returned to members toward the end of the year. Additionally the cooperative reported an increase of 718 members, a 2.3% gain, as well as the addition of 64 miles of line.

Once the annual report was given and the business meeting closed, the prize drawing commenced. Little Miss Dogwood, Shelby Bettis pulled the winners from the ballot barrel, while WCEC’s Dreabon Joiner acted as emcee. This year ninety-nine prizes were given, ranging from a beautiful wooden rocker to various electronics and household items. These prizes were made possible through the generous donations of WCEC’s vendors. WCEC also provided $50.00 electricity coupons, which went to 8 lucky winners. Winding up the prize drawing, Mr. Chester Robinson of Winnsboro, was awarded the grand prize, a 37 inch flat screen television, also donated by WCEC.

Debbie Robinson, CEO/General Manager of WCEC talked about the event and said, “The annual meeting is something the management and employees of WCEC look forward to every year. It’s a welcome time when we can congregate and socialize with the members. The event always offers learning opportunities and fosters good ideas for ways in which we can best serve our community. Our employees work hard every year to put this event together, and I congratulate them on another great affair, as well as a successful year.”
