WCEC Awards $10,000 to Area High School Students

Recently Wood County Electric Cooperative awarded $10,000 to ten ambitious 2006 graduating seniors within the WCEC service area. Each student will receive a $1,000 “Power My World” scholarship towards his or her future education.

An independent committee of WCEC members selected the ten winning applications. The “Power My World” scholarship is open only to students whose parents or legal guardians are WCEC members.  The program is funded entirely by unclaimed capital credit payments returned to WCEC by the state of Texas.

Those receiving scholarships were:

Jenny Woodle, Winnsboro HS

Lara Assaf, Mineola HS

Cara Rose, Mineola HS

Christi Cates, Quitman HS

Jennifer Johnson, Quitman HS

Raegan Smith, Quitman HS

Danielle Forsyth, Alba-Golden HS

Brandon Kirkpatrick, Grand Saline HS

WCEC congratulates this year’s winners and encourages them to aim high to achieve their goals.
