WCEC Receives Safety Accreditation

Wood County Electric Cooperative has received Rural Electric Safety Accreditation through the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association with a final score of 93%. The last accreditation was in 2003, and at that time, the co-op scored 88%.

While meeting the National Cooperative safety standards, WCEC’s Safety Coordinator Rusty Mask, said this accreditation shows the co-op’s commitment to safety efforts.

“The goal of the Safety Accreditation Program is to preserve life and prevent injuries, to establish safety and loss control standards, to recognize WCEC employees who work everyday to maintain a safe work environment, and most importantly, to compliment WCEC’s mission to provide reliable electrical service to our members.”

Mask added that the co-op, since the last accreditation in 2003, has furthered its safety efforts by providing more intensive safety training for smaller groups and establishing a more frequent vehicle/equipment inspection program.

WCEC’s CEO/General Manager Debbie Robinson said that she and the board of directors are very pleased with the accreditation results and with the safety program that is in place.

“Our employees have been working quite extensively on their safe work practices, and it shows with the final score the co-op received. It has always been our goal to have people work safely so they can go home at the end of the day, unharmed, to their families. The board of directors and I are very pleased that employees have been taking this seriously and working hard to make this a reality. It proves again that we have a fine group of employees working as a team for our members.”

The accreditation is effective for three years.
