Rushing Will Represent WCEC in Las Vegas
Macie Rushing, a senior at Quitman High School, will represent the state of Texas at the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association’s (NRECA) Annual Meeting from, March 17 through March 22, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Preceding this latest achievement by Rushing, she was selected as the Wood County Electric Cooperative, Inc. participant for the 2006 Government in Action Youth Tour in Washington, D. C. As part of her involvement in the youth tour, she was elected by Youth Leadership Council (YLC) peers to represent Texas at the 2007 NRECA annual meeting. As a national YLC pick, Rushing will join other current and former YLC members who have been recognized as outstanding youth leaders in their communities
Rushing is the daughter of Darrell and Pam Rushing of Quitman. She is an honor student and actively involved in high school activities and the community. Upon graduation, Rushing is planning to attend Texas A&M University, College Station, majoring in English and Public Relations.
In Las Vegas, she will participate with other representatives of the YLC in a parade of states, work in the congressional action center, man the conference information booth, and join various meetings and forums that will be attended by approximately 12,000 to 13,000 electric co-op managers, directors and staff.
In the history of YLC, this is the second time a youth sponsored by WCEC has been selected for this honor.
Of Rushing’s accomplishment, WCEC CEO/General Manager Debbie Robinson said, “The youth selected for this honor must demonstrate outstanding leadership ability, as well as dedication to their community. For two delegates, over the years, to have been selected from our area is highly unusual. This achievement attests to the high caliber of our students, and the quality education they are receiving.”
