TEC Loss Control Scholarship Recipients

Raegan Smith and Stephanie Sandifer are among 35 students across Texas who recently received $500 scholarships from the Texas Electric Cooperatives (TEC) Loss Control Program. Raegan is the daughter of Stanley and Jana Smith and Stephanie is the daughter of Larry and Shirley Sandifer of Quitman. Jana and Larry are both employed at Wood County Electric Cooperative, Inc.

“We are proud that the TEC Loss Control Program saw fit to honor promising students in our cooperative family,” said Debbie Robinson, CEO/General Manager of Wood County Electric Cooperative. “Our personnel who labor in potentially dangerous occupations deserve our heartfelt thanks. The scholarship program is one way of recognizing employees’ value to the organization.”

Scholarship winners are the sons or daughters of electric cooperative employees enrolled in TEC’s Loss Control Program. The program provides safety training for cooperative employees on topics including hotlines, transformers, pole climbing and underground wiring. Training centers are located in three Texas towns—Levelland, Henderson and Gonzales.

To be eligible for loss control scholarships, applicants had to be a graduate of a Texas high school or hold a GED equivalent certification from the same academic year a scholarship is awarded. Students also had to apply and meet entrance requirements at a four-year university, junior college or TEA-approved trade school offering an associate degree.
