MACIE RUSHING TO REPRESENT TEXAS IN NATIONAL YOUTH COUNCIL
Macie Rushing of Quitman has been selected to represent Texas on the Youth Leadership Council (YLC) of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA). Macie will attend the YLC Conference, July 15-19, 2006, in Washington, D.C. The conference agenda includes leadership and team building exercises, meeting with congressional staffers who are “alumni” of NRECA’s Electric Cooperative Youth Tour, and a competition to select the NRECA’s National Youth Spokesperson.
“This is what it’s all about,” said Macie. “We are preparing ourselves for the future with peers from across the country, thanks to Wood County Electric Cooperative and NRECA. We will expand our knowledge of the American political system, broaden our understanding of cooperatives and develop our leadership skills.”
Macie’s electric co-op experience began in June when she attended the Electric Cooperative Youth Tour in Washington, D.C. with nearly 1,500 high school students sponsored by their local electric cooperatives. The Texas Electric Cooperative then selected Macie to serve on the YLC for Texas and attend the Leadership Conference.
All 42 members of the YLC, including Macie, will participate in the 2007 NRECA Annual Meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada. They will provide assistance to the NRECA staff and co-op delegates, participate in the Parade of States at the opening General Session and take part in a variety of educational activities.
Wood County Electric Cooperative serves over 31,000 meters in nine counties throughout northeast Texas including Camp, Franklin, Hopkins, Rains, Smith, Titus, Upshur, Van Zandt, and Wood County.
