WCEC has received reports of a telephone scam generating from phone number (800) 636-2080. This same number has been identified by several Police Departments as one used in multiple utility scams.
The scam involves individuals requesting payment for past due accounts. The caller says power will be shut off unless a payment is made and gives the member the option to send a money order or cash to a payment center. All members should be very suspicious of anyone requesting this type of payment. Hang-up and call the cooperative at (903) 763-2203.
