Wiley E. Vonner was born and raised in Waco, TX. He graduated from West High School in West. Following, he attended McLennan County Community Jr. College in Waco. He earned his Bachelor of Science at East Texas State University in Commerce, and his Master’s degree from East Texas State University, and completed mid-management and superintendent certification courses at the University of Texas at Tyler.

Mr. Vonner served as a teacher/coach for Hawkins ISD for 17 years. He then moved into administration to serve as assistant secondary principal and eventually high school principal. Following, he became the High School principal at Winona ISD and then the special assistant to the superintendent. He was then chosen as WISD’s Superintendent of Schools and he acted in this capacity until his retirement after 39 years of work in the Texas school system.

He currently serves as the President of the Wood County Retired School Personnel Association; is a member of Texas High School Coaches Association; Texas Retired Teachers Association; and has held membership in Texas Association of Secondary School Principals; Texas Association of School Administrators; and currently serves as Vice-President of the Hawkins Community Development Board. He and his wife of 42 years, Janice, reside in Hawkins, and are members of New Zion Baptist Church in Winona. They have 3 children, all of which are educators in Mesquite ISD, and are blessed with 6 grandchildren.
