PASSING ON THE SAVINGS TO OUR MEMBERS

Good News! Effective March 1, 2024, WCEC is reducing the Power Cost Recover Factor (PCRF) again.  This time, from .050 per kWh to .045 per kWh. All usage billed after that date will be calculated using the new reduced rate.

How It Works

As a not-for-profit distribution co-op, WCEC buys wholesale power from other entities to distribute to members as they use it. WCEC doesn’t mark up the cost of power or make any profit from it. As power costs fluctuate, the Power Cost Recovery Factor (PCRF) allows WCEC to pass the cost variations to members. This is not a rate change, but members pay per kWh as the PCRF is raised or lowered based on the cost of fuel.

The advantage of a responsive PCRF is that as fuel prices rise and fall, they can be adjusted upward or downward. WCEC last adjusted the PCRF on Oct 1, 2023, when it was also lowered from .058 per kWh to .050 per kWh.

How It Will Affect Your Bills

The PCRF is multiplied by the number of kWh’s a meter uses during a monthly billing cycle. The new PCRF change will equate to a $5.00 savings per 1,000 kWh per month.

In Summary

This PCRF reduction is driven by what it costs to buy the fuel to generate the electricity, and we pass this on to members. As a co-op, we work very hard to keep costs as reasonable and affordable as we can for our members. It’s the co-op way.
