As part of routine maintenance, Wood County Electric Cooperative, Inc. (WCEC) has contracted with Osmose Utilities Services, Inc, to provide inspection services for distribution poles. To that end, contractor crews from Osmose will be performing sound test on poles and will operate with WCEC’s guidance to access private property under the authority of WCEC’s easements.
These crews will be working in Franklin, Hopkins and Wood Counties in the Sandfield, Yantis, Winnsboro and Coke Communities. The project timeline will be dependent upon terrain and weather, but work will begin immediately and is expected to last through August. These workers will have Osmose identification including signs on their vehicles and will also carry Osmose identification and a letter from WCEC.
Inspection of poles is a critical action that allows for safer operations as well as reduced costs, allowing WCEC to better manage the factors that determine pole performance and strength. Identifying weaker elements of the system in advance of failure allows for optimum conditions for replacement, repair and construction, and enhances system reliability. All WCEC members should be cognizant of this important activity and extend the same courtesies to these work crews as is given to WCEC employees.
